Father’s Day Fun!

by Emily on June 16, 2011

It hit me this morning that all the things that I was going to get crafty and make for Father’s Day was very quickly coming to a deadline!  Sid had already decided that he’d like to also have a Daddy’s Book like mine but I wanted to do a little something more.  Sid is a great photographer and I hate that so many beautiful pictures are just stuck in our computer so I wanted to print a picture for him for his special day.  I stumbled upon several great ideas but decided on something that I had on hand.   I found the idea first on Mom It Forward then found another link at Bargain Hoot.  Taking ideas from both sites, I think I ended up with a pretty sweet gift from Pip naturally….no one has to know that she napped through the entire process!  From this idea below from Bargain Hoot …I started on creating a very similar idea.

The first thing I had to do was play a little Bananagrams with myself to see what leftover letters I had on hand from an earlier project.  I decided on two gifts: one for Sid and one for my Dad, Grandpa.

Did a quick trip to Target and got the frame that I wanted and voila we were ready to get crafty!  I did decide to not use the glass of the frame because I wanted the wooden letter tiles to be more 3-dimensional on the wall.

With my handy glue gun in hand, I decided to lay out the letters on the mat alongside the photo to see what it looked like.  I was pretty happy with the off-kilter look which brought some character to a pretty plain frame.

I used an extra letter tile to space out the I from the Love just to make it line up.  I didn’t use all the trusty methods of taping the letters together or lining them up with a straight-edge, rather I just wanted it to look natural.  My letters were not from a Scrabble game either, just a bag ‘o letters from the craft store so all the black print and size/cut of the wood was a bit random.

All in all, I was happy with the outcome.  Probably one of the simplest gifts yet but I think it will be a hit!

Cheers to all the Dad’s out there!  I hope you enjoy a lovely upcoming weekend with your families!  Now, I’d better get moving on the Grandpa gift!
