Bits & Bobs We ♥: A Cappella Magic

by Andrea on October 24, 2011

Anyone else watching The Sing Off?  This show makes me so happy.  In its third season, The Sing Off brings a cappella groups from around the United States to compete for bragging rights and a recording contract.  If you aren’t familiar with the show, this week’s opening number featuring all of the remaining groups is sure to bring a smile to your face.  I’m pretty sure that a dorky grin was plastered to my face during the duration of the number:

As I mentioned, The Sing Off is in the third season, and it keeps getting better and better.  The groups this year are insanely amazing. Plus, they replaced one of past judges with Sara Bareilles.  In my humble opinion, she’s a much stronger and sincere judge than her predecessor.  The other great thing about these judges, which also include Ben Folds (‘Ben Folds Five’) and Shawn Stockman (‘Boyz II Men’), is that they are genuinely nice. Unlike some other reality TV shows where judges can be downright mean, these judges provide constructive criticism in a positive manner.  And, the outfits.  Awesome.  I can’t figure out if the groups are responsible for bringing all of these matching outfits or if they have a costume team helping them.  Whoever is behind it, three thumbs up!

I think the number that really sucked me in during the first season was Sweet Caroline sung by an all male group from Tufts University.  I can’t help but feel happy as I watch this.

As of this week, they are down to eight groups from the original sixteen.  My favorites are Afro-Blue, Urban Method, and Dartmouth Aires.  I hope you enjoy this ear candy as much as I do!
