Trick or Treat Mantel

by Emily on October 6, 2011

I love to see all the ideas that Layla comes up with for her mantel space on The Lettered Cottage! Her’s are always inspiring and make me feel like I too can fill my massive mantel with objects that are pretty to look at!  Did you see what she’s done for this “It’s Fall Y’All” Autumn Link Party?  Really cute and yet so simple.

Well, I went the traditional orange route with my mantel.  I can say that I’ve never once decorated a mantel for Halloween so this was new for me.  Didn’t really know what I should put up there besides the bag of mixed pumpkins from the grocery store.  But I got a little urge to sew again and before I knew it, I had managed to come up with all the ingredients for another banner/bunting for the upcoming holiday!  I cut out all the elements one afternoon and pieced them together one evening – so easy!  If that wasn’t a crazy enough idea, I realized that if I was careful and creative with my sewing, I could use the backside of the orange felt to create something like Give Thanks for Thanksgiving.  Hmmm….

I saw this free printable on Pinterest of “If the Broom Fits Ride It” from Crafts & Sutch and just kept smirking to myself at how that made me smile.  My only purchase, besides the pumpkins was the glitter broom from JoAnn’s for $2.50!  To fill the other blank space I also thought it would be fun to see some photos of Pip’s costumes from age 2 months (chilli pepper) & 14 months old (duck).

From someone who’s never really given much thought to decorating for Halloween,  I hope you have a good time placing pumpkins and other spooky elements!
