Annual Home Spa Day & Facial Mask

by Andrea on January 11, 2012

A few years back, three of my friends decided that in lieu of buying each other Christmas presents, we’d get together and spend money on a mini celebration over the holidays.  No significant others, no kids.  The plan came together really quickly, and we’ve been doing it ever since.

The plan was to have an ‘Annual Home Spa Day.’  A day when we can hang out, eat good food, wear comfy clothes, and try some new activities.  There are four of us that participate every year, and each person contributes an activity and something to eat or drink.  In the month leading up to our Annual Home Spa Day, we do a drawing to see who gets which activity and food/drink item.

We have a spending cap of $20 for each activity, which falls into one of four categories:

Spa
Game
Fun
Sparkle

We then have a spending cap of $10 for each food/drink category:

Main dish
Salad
Dessert
Drinks & Bread

This year, B was in charge of Spa.  She put together little goodie bags of home made beauty treatments which included instructions for a facial mask, conditioner, scrub, hand wrap, and shower therapy.  We then got our hands dirty and made the All-Natural Chocolate Facial Mask.

Here’s the recipe:
1/3 cup cocoa
3 T heavy cream
2 t cottage cheese
1/4 cup honey
3 t oatmeal powder
Mix all ingredients together and smooth on face. Relax for 10 minutes; then rinse with warm water.  This recipe is courtesy of Bliss Spa, NYC.

Some past highlights include a dancing tutorial compliments of a Dancing with the Stars DVD (we were instructed to bring heels and a skirt to go over our sweats), painting/bejeweling of a canvas bag, making glitter trees, an original song and performance, and the beginning of our life lists.

All in all, it’s great fun and a highlight of my holidays!
