Bits & Bobs We ♥: 100 Cameras

by Andrea on March 19, 2012

I recently learned about the organization 100cameras, thanks to one of my previous Bits & Bobs, Lonny Magazine. This organization is empowering marginalized kids in their own communities by giving them cameras…

… teaching them about telling stories through photography….

… selling their photos to you / me / we….

… and giving the money back to their communities to make a difference.

Since it launched, 100cameras has done three projects in Sudan, NY, and Cuba.  In every case it’s the same concept, give kids cameras and the power to tell their stories.  The photographs are awesome.

You / me / we can buy a photo and support these kids.  They sell a variety of photographs sizes from a 4 x6 card for $8.00 to a 20″ x 25″ print for $150.

I just keep thinking about what a clever, simple, and beautiful idea this is. It makes me wonder what creative ideas can we each come up with to make a difference for people’s lives around the world.

While the photo below was taken by 100camera staff and not by the kids, I can’t help but smile each and every time I look at it.
