Little Ones in D.C.

by Andrea on May 2, 2012

I’ve had a bit of a challenging week, and my go to cures are (1) cleaning and (2) trip planning.  After scrubbing down the kitchen yesterday, including the walls, I’ve settled into some research for an upcoming trip to Washington D.C.

I hadn’t given much thought to this trip so far, but I want to make sure I have an arsenal of things to with Mo once the time comes.  So far, things are looking pretty wonderful.  Here are my top online finds so far:

(1) Giant Pandas! I knew the museums were free in D.C., but did you know the zoo was too?  I did not.  Nor did I know that it is the home to giant pandas!  I’m pretty excited about this.  If our recent trip to the zoo is any indication of how Mo will feel about this, as long as there are things for him to climb, he’ll be happy.

(2) Dinosaurs! Back to the topic of free museums, we’ll certainly have to see the dinosaurs at the National Museum of Natural History.  I’m thinking that almost two will be the perfect age to introduce a little man to dinosaurs.  Plus I’m sure it will be swarmed with kids.  If the dinosaurs don’t impress, the kids certainly will. Mo is a people watcher; he gets it from me.

(3) Picnic at the National Mall!  We’ll be there in June, and we certainly have to include plenty of time for outdoor running around.  I think a little Mo friendly picnic, along with a ball, we’ll provide us quite a bit of entertainment.

(4) Carousel!  Since we’ll be at the Mall anyway for our picnic, we can pop over to the carousel and go for a spin.  Mo has never been on a carousel, and I’m pretty sure he’s going to love it.  We’ll probably have to go on it more than once though, now that I think about it.

(5) Metro Ride! Mo’s only been on a metro once, and that was four months ago, AND it wasn’t an underground metro.  Given he’s current interest in ‘choo-choos’, I think this will be quite fun. Plus, I love riding around on metros/subways. Given that we have little that is interesting in the way of Seattle public transportation, I always get excited to ride the subway.  They make me feel so cosmopolitan.

Okay OLG readers, I have two questions for you:

First – what are your go-to cures for less than fantastic weeks?
Second – do you have any intel on taking a toddler to D.C.?  If so, dish it out!
